Transesterification of rapeseed oil over acid resins promoted by supercritical carbon dioxide

2011

The methanolysis of rapeseed oil catalyzed by commercial styrene-divinylbenzene macroporous acid resins was performed in a batch reactor at 100-140 °C and 10-46 MPa to study the effect of supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) on the performances of the process. Reaction temperatures of 120-140 °C were necessary to obtain high enough yields of fatty acid methyl esters. Upon addition of scCO2 faster transesterification kinetics was obtained also at the lowest investigated operating pressure (10-11 MPa), working in two fluid phase systems. Experiments performed changing the reaction time indicated that most of the esters were formed during the first 3 h. When the pressure was increased at 38-46…

H$^{-}$ extraction systems for CERN’s Linac4 H$^{-}$ ion source

2018

Linac4 is a 160 MeV linear H accelerator at CERN. It is an essential part of the beam luminosity upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and will be the primary injector into the chain of circular accelerators. It aims at increasing the beam brightness by a factor of 2, when compared to the currently used 50 MeV linear proton accelerator, Linac2. Linac4’s ion source is a cesiated RF-plasma H ion source. Several beam extraction systems were designed for H beams of 45 keV energy, 50 mA intensity and an electron to H ratio smaller than 5. The goal was to extract a beam with an rms-emittance of mm mrad. One of the main challenges in designing an H extraction system is dumping of the co-extra…

The rate of polymerization in two loci reaction systems: VDF-HFP precipitation copolymerization in supercritical carbon dioxide

2011

When the copolymerization of vinylidene fluoride (VDF) and hexafluoropropylene (HFP) is carried out in supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO 2) under heterogeneous conditions, the reaction occurs both in the continuous CO 2-rich phase and in the dispersed polymer-rich phase. The two phases being characterized by different values of reactant concentrations and kinetic parameters, one would expect that the reaction kinetics is affected by the polymer phase holdup in the reactor. However, the reaction rate is almost insensitive to the amount of produced polymer, at least at specific reaction conditions. This apparent contradiction is discussed and clarified in this paper by a series of comparativ…

Engagement by lamination of autopoietic concentric interaction systems in games : a study of football and Pokémon GO

2018

The aim of this paper is to rethink games and game design within the theory of self-producing interaction systems. With this research, I seek to identify several dynamics of play and engagement elicited by games that, by extension, can serve as game design parameters. The research is oriented toward an analysis of football (soccer) and Pokémon GO within the context of Niklas Luhmann’s (2002/2012) theoretical framework of autopoiesis (i.e., self-producing interaction systems). The theoretical discussion of play situations in the two games reveals five concentric interaction systems through which games motivate play and engagement. These game dynamics are continuing simultaneous communication…

Reguły działania a argumentacja

2016

Powstające formalne struktury obejmują tzw. cyrkumskrypcje (circumscriptions), logikę domyśleń (default logic), logikę autoepistemiczną (autoepistemic logic), konsekwencje kumulatywne (cumulative consequences) i szereg innych. Można wyodrębnić dwa główne typy systemów rozumowań niemonotonicznych: systemy defi niowalne po…
